Poor sheets

The deletion of strands from a sheet can lead to maps corresponding to nonsensical 3D structures. Maps containing isolated strands (i.e. those lacking hydrogen bonding partners) are removed. Maps are also removed if strands are deleted from the centre of sheets contained within the map.

Analysis of high quality domains shows that the number of - contacts Å made by a strand () with any of its neighbouring strands is always , where is the number of residues in the strand. Thus maps are also removed if one or more strands has .
