RHIMS visualisation of Database searches: Example 1.
What is this?
The sequence in example 1 is a contig assembled from GSS and EST sequences of T.brucei. A TBLASTN search vs Swissprot/TREMBL shows strong similarity to ribulose epimerase and to galactokinase. The galactokinase matches do not appear until much further down the search listing (position 54 at the earliest).

Entering the keyword 'epimerase' in the green box in the RHIMS applet and clicking the 'add view' button allows a rapid visualisation of the location and strength of the matches to the epimerase sequences. Likewise, entering 'galactokinase' allows visualisation of the matches to the galactokinase sequences. It can be clearly seen that the two functions are located in different regions of the sequence and are quite possibly related to different gene products. With the strong match to many epimerases and the location of the highest galactokinase hit at position 54 it is possible that the galactokinase similarity would be overlooked.
