Investigation of nucleolar association of proteins

Several thousands of distinct proteins have been experimentally identified in purified nucleoli preparations (Ahmad et al, 2009) but not all these proteins associate with the nucleolus to the same extent. Some proteins are highly enriched in the nucleolus while others cyclically or conditionally localize to the nucleolus from other nuclear or even cytoplasmic regions.

We are interested in the following nucleolar association groups:
Groups of differing nucleolar association

We are investigating the prediction of nucleolar association of proteins by integrating in a Bayesian network diverse protein features including

  • Expression data
  • Protein targeting motifs
  • The localization of protein interactors
  • Biological process annotation of proteins
  • Protein sequence features
